CHICAGO–Despite the fact that he filed for free agency earlier this week, Cubs third baseman Aramis Ramirez hopes to remain with the Cubs.
“The Cubs are my first choice, but I’m a free agent because I had to give myself the opportunity,” Ramirez told the AP. “Also, did you see that scene in Grudge 2 when that spirit comes out of that picture and kills that guy? That was classic cinema,” Ramirez said.
A scene from Grudge 2 during which nothing happened, not unlike April and May for Ramirez.
Asked if he might entertain offers from more recently-successful teams that play in warm weather, such as the Angels or the Dodgers, Ramirez said no. “I don’t think those teams are any better than the Cubs right now,” Ramirez said. “Just like I don’t think The Shining was any better than Grudge 2. Those twins weren’t anywhere near as scary as that little boy who makes that crazy clicking sound with his mouth,” Ramirez added. “Aaaaahhhhhh,” Ramirez said, demonstrating the sound.
Ramirez is hopeful that the Cubs will improve on their 66-win campaign last year. “This team is about to explode just like that one girl’s sister’s head did in Grudge 2 when she fell off that roof,” Ramirez said. “I just hope people can appreciate us for how good we really are. We’re at least as good as Grudge 2.”
