Name That Blog!

Thanks to you fine folks, we’re starting to get a little bit of traffic at Fire Lou Piniella! What this means is that we should probably pursue our own domain name. Here is the problem. Both fireloupiniella.com and fireloupiniella.net are currently registered, and the owners of both sites don’t look to be giving them up anytime soon, even though the sites are pretty much profiting off this site. Don’t go look at them. Just trust me. I’ve tried all kinds of combinations, including firelou.com, among others. I don’t particularly want to have annoying dashes like fire-lou-piniella.com, nor do I want something too long like theofficialfireloupiniella.com (although I might change my mind on that one). Hell, even the misspelled fireloupinella.com is taken.

Here’s what I was thinking. Since you guys are the ones who have to read my nonsense, and since you are the ones who’ve kept me inspired to keep the blog updated, can you guys and gals help me come up with a new domain name?

Since I did this (poorly) with Dusty Baker, and since I’ll most likely continue to do this long after Lou is gone, I’ve been trying to brainstorm some type of generic domain, such as firethecubscoach.com. But, frankly, that sort of sucks.

So, I propose a “Name That Blog!” contest. The prize is nothing but the satisfaction of a job well done. So, you really have no incentive to do help, other than the fact that you might be tired of typing in the currently lengthy domain address. If you have an idea, let’s hear it in the comments section.

just a start things off..i’m sure there are going to be plenty more… how about fire41.com?

  2. 2 Slaky March 9, 2007 at 11:50 am

Dude, I just did this crazy thing called bookmarking. So I don’t have to type it in every time. It’s amazing but it worked.

Also, for new site names I would go with kickmeinthecotts.com

    axloupiniella.com

    terminatelou.com

    feedjimhendry.com

    runloupiniellaouttatown.com

    hirejimessian.com

  4. 5 Slaky March 9, 2007 at 12:10 pm

    I love hirejimessian.com

Because A) The Cubs will never re-hire Essian, so this will last forever and B) Jim Essian rules.

  5. 6 Scrap March 9, 2007 at 12:34 pm

    How about FireTheCubsManager.com or FireSweetLou.com?

  6. 7 Bad Kermit March 9, 2007 at 12:35 pm

In a nutsack, some of those are so awesome that people already have them. Those are really good, though. Al, fire41 is just the kind of succinct name that catches on.

I can’t believe how perfect hirejimessian is, though. I’m taking it, TJ, and running with it, if it’s okay with you. Don’t let that stop you guys from coming up with ideas, though. I could always do a couple of them and have them redirect to the same spot. For each manager, I’d like to try to get the fire________.com domain and have it redirect.

I knew you guys would come through. Thanks!

  8. 9 Bad Kermit March 9, 2007 at 12:42 pm

Scrap, I had the exact same two ideas. I think I might still do the first one, and the second one is unfortunately already taken.

FYI, hirejimessian.com is mine. At the latest, it will be up and running by Sunday. I will post when it’s “official.”

  12. 13 Jim Essian March 9, 2007 at 1:26 pm

Hi, gang! Essian here ready to report for duty. I knew all along that Lou Piniella wasn’t cut out for this team. What experience does he have managing a Cubs team destined for fourth place?

Will I be able to write weekly notes to my fans at hirejimessian.com? We have teh Internets at the Phillips 66 Station off of I-70 in Hays, Kan. You might call it obscurity.

  13. 14 Bad Kermit March 9, 2007 at 1:33 pm

Great. Sulleymoon is already trying to steal my material.

  14. 15 Cap'n Obvious March 9, 2007 at 1:50 pm

    How about piniellameltdown.com

    or byebyelou.com.

  15. 16 Lou March 9, 2007 at 2:08 pm

No iterations of firing me. That’s a bunch of crap from you village idiots. Now, shut up and get Hendry a donut and a pineapple for me. Don’t ask, you morons, just do it. You idiots aren’t going to fire me!!! This is my site. I just let you guys on to write stupid crap about Marvelle Wynne and Lance Dickson (that one better be on the way). He was as disappointing as finding out that the chick in The Crying Game was hung.

    I demand either Lousaysshutup.com
    Louspeaks.com
or something like that. You guys went to community college. Figure it out!!!

Boys, the next few years are going to be fun. Firing me is the last thing you’ll be wishing for.

  16. 17 Jim Essian March 9, 2007 at 2:09 pm

Screw you, Lou! I went 2-3 against you in 1991, which is like batting .400, right?

Besides, I beat you in one of the sweetest Cub victories of July 1991: http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CHN/CHN199107230.shtml

  17. 18 Slaky March 9, 2007 at 2:27 pm

Holy shit, I was watching that game! The game where Dibble threw the ball at Dascenzo! I love that game.

  18. 19 JD, Too March 9, 2007 at 2:35 pm

I like the Jim Essian one. That’s righteous.

  19. 20 dying_diehard March 9, 2007 at 3:31 pm

Besides, I beat you in one of the sweetest Cub victories of July 1991: http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CHN/CHN199107230.shtml

Was that the game Dawson went bonkers and started throwing bats out of the dugout? If so, I was at that game!

  20. 21 Jim Essian March 9, 2007 at 3:47 pm

Yes, it was. Otherwise, I’d have made one of the curioser managerial moves in the history of the Cub franchise, pulling Hawk in the 7th inning of a tie game in favor of Jerome Walton.

(If you’re wondering what the dumbassest move in the history of Cubs managing was, I’d say it was Jim Frey not starting Rick Sutcliffe in Game 4. Frey’s a dumbass. He fired me and was going to replace me with himself (although he did want to give the stiff John Vukovich an interview), but he done got fired himself. He was so bad, the Cubs hired Larry Himes to replace Frey, and Jim Lefebvre to replace me.

The second dumbassest move? It came here: http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CHN/CHN200207150.shtml The perpetrator? Bruce Kimm, aka Me, Part 2.

  21. 22 Slaky March 9, 2007 at 3:49 pm

I liked Lefebvre and I like Riggelman too. I guess I didn’t know much back then.

  22. 25 Mike D. March 9, 2007 at 4:00 pm

    And dd-

I was at that game in July ’91. Sat in the right-field bleachers. Beautiful night. Seriously. It was also the same game wherein king superdouche Ron Dibble pegged Doug Dascenzo with the baseball Because DD bunted on his fat ass.

  23. 26 Jim Essian March 9, 2007 at 4:03 pm

I was no worse than Lefebvre or Tom Trebelhorn (nice forum you held at the coffeehouse, asshole) or Riggleman. Come to think of it, how can you say I was worse than Lefebvre, Trebelhorn, Riggleman, Don Baylor, Bruce Kimm or Dusty Baker? OK, I’ll concede Riggleman wasn’t bad, but he was a nerd. Rode the train to Wrigley. How about driving your badass Ford Ltd to the Wrigley Field parking lot? I’d always park it next to Dunston’s mercedes convertible, and ding his passenger side door with my driver’s door. Haha, Shawony! Everyone loved my Iowa plates too.
OK, but am I worse than Lefebvre, Trebelhorn, Baylor, Kimm or Dusty? That’s what I thought… How about any worse than Joe Altobelli, Zimmer, Frank Luchessi, Gene Michael, John Vukovich (how’s that long managing career working out, big guy?), Jim Frey, Charlie Fox, Lee Elia, Joe Amalfitano, Preston Gomez, Herman Franks, Jim Marshall, or Whitey Lockman?

That’s right!! And then before Lockman was that [s]douchebag/[s] buffoon (sorry, Bruce Miles) Leo Durocher, who couldn’t win squat with 3 Hall of Famers and a great 3rd baseman. And before Leo, the Cubs had a collection of shitty coaches that also operated a small city school. “The College of Coaches.” It was before the Unviersity of Phoenix and Lincoln Technical Institute, so there was a little bit of demand for it.

At any rate, here’s where I think I rank among post-CoC Cubs managers:

    1. Riggleman (there ya go, Slaky)
    2. Me
    3. Joe Altobelli
    4. Larry Rothschild
    5. Bruce Kimm
    6. Charlie Fox
    7. Frank Luchessi
    8. Jim Lefebvre
    9. Lee Elia
    10. Jim Marshall
    11. Herman Franks
    12. John Vukovich
    13. Joey Amalfitano
    14. Don Zimmer
    15. Gene Michael
    16. Leo Durocher
    17. Tom Trebelhorn
    18. Don Baylor
    19. Dusty Baker
    20. Lou Piniella

See that, Lou? You’re number 20. Win a few games and maybe we’ll bump you up. But no matter what happens, I’ll always have July 23, 1991.

  24. 27 Bad Kermit March 9, 2007 at 4:14 pm

Christ, before long everyone who reads this site will have been at that game. All 12 of you.

  25. 28 Mike D. March 9, 2007 at 4:38 pm

    I’m a dope.

Sorry, Slack. I see you already called the “Dascenzo” thing.

  26. 29 JD, Too March 9, 2007 at 4:59 pm

Do we still congregate here? The new site is confusing me.

  27. 30 Bad Kermit March 9, 2007 at 5:01 pm

Yes, congregate here for now. I think the move will happen this weekend, but I will put a post on here about it.

  28. 31 Andy March 9, 2007 at 5:13 pm

    Somewhere Bruce Kimm weeps.

  29. 32 Bad Kermit March 9, 2007 at 5:14 pm

    “Somewhere”? You mean “at Denny’s”?

  30. 34 Jim Essian March 9, 2007 at 5:52 pm

Let’s not forget endorsements by people like:

Mike Royko: “[Jim Essian] acts like the the master of ceremonies in a strip joint.”

Andrew Bagnato: “Some might think the ‘race’ for third place is a joke, but not Essian.”

Jerome Holtzman: “Essian has been critized for his ‘nice-guy approach.’ He also has come under fire because of the way he stands in the dugout and claps his hands in approval of a good play. What`s wrong with that?”

Greg Maddux: “It wasn`t Zim`s fault and it wasn`t Essian`s fault.”

Bernie Lincicome: “solitarily enthusiastic” (upon awarding Jim Essian the “What`s He Applauding, Another Blown Save? Award”)

  31. 37 CT March 9, 2007 at 7:26 pm

I’m late to the party, but hirejimessian is the way to go. And no matter what Jim says, he is worse than Baker, Kimm, Riggleman and the rest. As I recall, his idea of managing consisted of standing on the top step of the dugout, clapping his hands. The image of him doing that is still burned into my mind. It’s crazy.
